New water leaders: Grower and ex-politician appointed to LMW


FRUIT grower Cheryl Rix and former politician Barry Bishop have been appointed directors to the board of Lower Murray Water.

Water Minister Peter Walsh announced their appointment yesterday.

“I am delighted to welcome citrus, wine and dried fruit producer Cheryl Rix and former state Member of the Legislative Council Barry Bishop onto the Lower Murray Water board,” Mr Walsh said.

“I also congratulate Merbein lawyer and Lower Murray Water deputy chairman Kay Martin on her reappointment as a director.

“Ms Rix who, is chair of the Lower Murray Darling Catchment Management Authority in New South Wales, will bring strong experience in water resource management and customer relations to the board having formerly served as general manager for Western Murray Irrigation Limited.

“Among an impressive array of community activities, Ms Rix is a member of the Mildura Development Corporation.
